Dr Vikas Wahal is a distinguished banker, investor, entrepreneur, consultant, and fintech leader with over 35 years of extensive leadership experience across India’s banking, financial services, and technology ecosystems. He has played a pivotal role in building and scaling large financial institutions, driving strategic transformation, and mentoring emerging enterprises.
Dr Wahal currently serves as Director & Strategic Advisor at Nagarro, a global digital product engineering and technology company, where he advises on growth strategy, leadership, and enterprise transformation.
Previously, he spent over 23 years at HDFC Bank, having joined the institution during its formative years. Over the course of his career there, he emerged as one of the bank’s key leaders, ultimately heading the largest region in the country as EVP and Branch Banking Head. In this role, he was instrumental in establishing market leadership and building strong dominance in retail and SME lending, significantly contributing to the bank’s expansion and performance.
Earlier in his career, Dr Wahal also held senior roles at ICICI Bank and ANZ, gaining deep exposure to diverse banking systems and international best practices.
In his consulting career, he served as an Advisor at Primus Partners, and was also an independent consultant to leading global consulting firms including Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Company, and Bain & Company, as well as multiple foreign investment companies. His advisory work focused on banking ecosystems, operational strategy, and business process re-engineering (BPR).
As an entrepreneur, Dr Wahal founded SwinkPay Fintech Pvt Ltd, operating in the digital payments space. He has also been an early-stage investor in fintech and technology ventures including Nupay and SignCatch.
Academically, Dr Wahal holds a PhD in Business Administration and Management from Ecole Supérieure Robert de Sorbon, an MBA from Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad, and has completed the Advanced Leadership Program at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr Wahal is a committed philanthropist, actively supporting social causes close to his heart. He is also an avid golfer and a strong believer in the transformative power of meditation and mindful leadership.
